An Introduction to New Kalpana Chawla College of Education, Anayat, Gohana (Sonipat).

New Kalpana Chawla College of Education is a pioneering educational college for imparting Teacher Education. Inspired from the life of great international astronaut Kalpana Chawla, it has carved a niche for itself in curricular & co curricular achievements coupled with extra-curricular activities. College came into existence in the year 2008. It is a co-educational teacher training institute affiliated with Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra earlier & Now Affiliated to Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind for undertaking Bachelor of Education course with an intake capacity of 100 seats.

Since its inception, the college believes in providing convivial environment to its gems that thrive confidently and learn incessantly. The new session of the college begins with the "Havan". The tradition of performing "Havans" gives the message of omnipresence and omnipotence of God. It is followed by the orientation programme by which students are informed about the curriculum, norms of the college, time table and the course of the training.

Talent Search is organized to draw out the hidden talent in the prospective teachers by creating a conducive environment. Various competitions like mono- acting, solo-dance, singing and mimicry are marked for the participation of all students. Keeping in mind the importance of games and sports for the physical development of the students, apart from the regular health & physical activities, sports meet is also held in the college to recognize the talents and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in them. For the development of aesthetic sense in the students and unveiling their creative talents, the college organizes competitions like Best-out-of-Waste & Greeting-card Making as regular activities. Such competitions help in fostering originality in their thought process.

Community service programmes always carry a meaningful message. Considering the service of community as its primary responsibility, the college organizes rallies and skits to spread awareness and eradicate social evils and ignorance of the community. Tours and excursions always fill students with fun and frolic with lot of excitement. The college organizes tours and excursions to the various important places of interest. They are not only the means of recreation and relaxation but they also have great educational value for the students.

Democracy is not only preached but actually followed in practice in the college. The college functions under the guidance and with the efforts of various committees. These committees consist of efficient teaching faculty who work to their potential for the smooth functioning of the college aimed towards

All the students of the college are grouped into 5 Houses namely, Aurobindo, Gandhi, Sarojini, Tagore and Vivekanand. Each house consists of 20 students each who perform various duties in the college like conducting morning assembly taking their turn one by one each week. This practice maintains uniformity in the working of the college and every student gets his turn for bearing responsibilities of the college. The House in-charges also act as mentors of the group of students under them. These Mentors personally remain in touch with the students and give them emotional support which is very much necessary for the students from faraway places living without their families here.

To promote and foster mutually beneficial interaction between the Alumni and the present students and between the alumni itself, Alumni Meet is organized by the college every year around the pious festival of Holi. Various relevant current issues are discussed; new avenues and career after B.Ed. are discussed, leaving our present students motivated, awakened, refreshed and inspired.

The college has a Student Council which is a sort of self-government of the students in the institution. Two Class Representatives are selected from each of the sections. Students of the council actively participate in the administrative decisions of the college and act as representatives of the students in the institution.

In this way, all these activities of the college help in the overall Personality Development of the Pupil-teachers which transform them into responsible citizens and efficient prospective teachers.
